A Brief History

In 1956, at Temple Beth Am in a suburb of Buffalo, New York, several volunteers learned to transcribe print into Braille in order to help a blind child of a member of the congregation succeed in school. The Braille group was a part of the Sisterhood and began to grow, offering its services to the general community.

In 2002, the Braille Group became an independent non-profit corporation and became known as The Braille Group of Buffalo, expanding its services to all of western New York State.

Copies of our Braille materials are sold all over the United States, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Bahamas and Russia.
